I am against guns. Always was, always will be.
I'm sure many will agree, but killing our own kind is pointless and wrong.
I can't say killing all things is pointless and wrong since that would be quite hypocritical of me, the meat-eater.
Ideally, I would be a vegetarian, but my selfish mind says no.
What's the point of killing anyone?
What do you gain from killing people?
I actually agree with the batman on this point--no killing.
It seems so unreal that a person killed and injured a bunch of innocent strangers for no reason.
But, it happened, and that scares me.
I try to live without hurting or pissing off people, mostly because I believe in Karma.
It makes me sad and scared that sometimes it doesn't matter what I do.
I really wish that there was some ways to heal the emotional wounds the families of the murdered and wounded.
I ultimately wish that there was some ways to bring back those the world lost in any senseless killing.
Along with so many people, I watched the midnight premiere of the Dark Knight Rises.
I actually watched the trilogy all in a row in theater for the Dark Knight Trilogy thing.
So, 9 hours in the theater.
I've done it for HP7&8 with the boyfriend. Kinda became a tradition.
The movie was awesome.
But, overall, the movie theater or just watching movies are supposed to be a way to escape from the harsh realities that make life a bit difficult. Movies are supposed to provide a sanctuary.
With this tragedy, that luxury has been taken away, along with so many other securities that we took for granted and that we should be able to take for granted.
Sincerely,
Hayon

Movie: The Seven Year Itch
As much as I love Marilyn Monroe, I really haven't been exposed to her movies.
Before The Seven Year Itch, I've only seen Let's Make Love and All About Eve (in which she's not even a major character).
But, I do love her! I think she's the perfect combination of innocent and sultry.
Speaking of, I think the most attractive quality is that mixture of adorable and sexy. I suppose that whole "girl next door" concept is similar to this theory.
Anyways, I usually stay away from older movies (I know I know. sue me).
But, recently, I've been running out of movies to watch on Netflix that interested me. So, I figured, Why not a Marilyn Monroe movie?
In this particular film, she is literally the girl next door.
It's about a man who has been married for seven years, going through what is known as 'the seven year itch,' during which spouses lose interest in each other (well, men...).
Half the movie consists of the man letting his vivid imagination go wild with paranoia from being completely infatuated with the girl next door, Marilyn Monroe, while his wife and son are away on vacation in Maine.
This movie has that most famous Marilyn Monroe moment of her standing on an air vent with that beautiful white halter dress as the skirt flows wildly, exposing her legs.
Even though she is that typical dumb blonde in this movie with such naivete, Marilyn Monroe has that charm that make every man fall madly in love her.
It's such a tragedy that she passed away so young. But, at the same time, would she have been happy growing old and possibly losing that magnetism as time passes as the public loses interest and moves onto the next new thing?
Pondering,
Hayon

Movie a day: Ballerina
Lately, I've been obsessed with ballet.
I don't know why. I just love it. I love how graceful ballerinas look.
How beautiful they are.
How delicate, yet powerful they dance.
I wish I could be one. But with my limited physicality and so many other things, that's pretty far-fetched.
So, I've been watching youtube videos of ballerinas, Breaking Pointe, and I'm planning on watching the Bunheads (I think that's what its called?).
And of course, I clicked this movie without hesitating when I saw it on Netflix.
This documentary follows five Russian ballerinas, backstage & onstage.
Three of them are already prima ballerinas, meaning that they are at the top and have respect and prestige.
Two are on their way to the top.
Just the sheer amount of work that goes into ballets is insane.
They look so effortless and graceful, but they are sweating and panting by the end of it.
I don't think I can ever have that much self-discipline and motivation.
These dancers must have so much passion and love for their art.
It's really inspiring.
I think I'll take some ballet classes. that'll be my next on the "fun list"!
Inspired,
Hayon

Movie a day: The Thief and the Cobbler
This movie pretty much defined my childhood. hahaha.
Even though I was in Korea when I was little, somehow my parents acquired this lovely movie in good old VHS. I watched the movie over and over again.
It's kind of like Aladdin, but not particularly.
Just the whole concept of princess and the pauper thing is similar, but other than that it's different.
There are multiple versions of this movie. The one I had in Korea was the original version, and the one I watched on Netflix (bless you netflix.. just when I was ready to end subscription, you pull this stunt..) is the most recent one. They are a bit different, but doesn't matter. I was just so excited to find it. When we moved to US, I guess we left it behind, and I always felt so sad about that.
My fav. I am a sucker for duets, and I just love this song. I always have.
But, watching this movie again, I am pretty convinced that this movie was made by people who were on something because the graphics are pretty damn trippy.
Anyways, I'll be watching this movie pretty frequently. hahahaha.
Missing my childhood,
Hayon

Movie: Prometheus
So I watched Prometheus in theater, like the title suggests.
Don't read if you don't want anything ruined. But, I don't really plan on talking about the plot.. so whatever.
I happen to dislike 3D since it gives me headaches and just doesn't really do it for me overall. So, the bf and I watched it in good old regular version.
The movie was... interesting.
There were a couple scenes that would have been cool to watch in 3D, but it's definitely not necessary.
The storyline was cool, but I had some problems with it (will talk about it later).
I'm a geek at heart, so the whole scifi aspect was awesome.
With that said...
I have a few complaints about the movie.
1. I don't know when I will learn my lesson, but I really don't like alien movies. I absolutely HATED District 9. One of very few movies that I wanted to walk out of, but due to miscommunication with Jenn, we ended up staying the whole time, dying of disgust. And I just get really freaked/grossed out by the hollywood depiction of aliens. There were many parts that disgusted me in this particular movie, too. So, yea.. But, in my defense, I didn't REALLY know what the movie was about before I watched it lol. But, that's still my fault.. damn.
2. Call me ignorant and naive, but... I hate it when the movie maker asks questions in the movie and leaves me hanging in the end. ummm IF YOU ASK A DAMN QUESTION, I WANT ANSWERS because YOU (the movie maker) make it seem like you are going to effing provide answers. I hate loose ends. I WANT ANSWERS, DAMMIT. whatever.. I guess i'm not sophisticated enough to appreciate the unanswered bullshit movies. lol.
3. to me, it was a bummer ending. Why can't we leave feeling a bit optimistic, huh?
4. I didn't stay for the post-credit clip, but I saw it on youtube. it's not worth it.
But, it was cool. Charlize Theron is REALLY good at being the "hot bitch," as she described herself. lol
The ship, Prometheus, is awesome.
And David, the "robot", is really fuckin creepy, but GREAT ACTING!

Movie a day & Book!: Anthony Bourdain
After reading Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential, I got inspired to watch his tv show again.
I've always liked the show but kind of forgot about it after all the other tv shows and I don't know.. I just forgot.
The thing about Bourdain, to me, is that I really do like him and his blunt opinions and what not; but, for some reason, I get bored of him?
I really thought his book was informational and offered such a shocking and different view of the whole restaurant business and chef-dom. However, I just had the hardest time getting through the book.
Same with his show.. I can watch 1 or 2 episodes at once, but I don't crave for more.
I actually chose to SLEEP instead of watching the show. This is unusual for me since I slep at like 4 AM.
Anyways, with all that said, I DO LIKE HIM!
I don't know what it is though.
Since I couldn't really settle on a movie, I just watched No Reservation. Paris and Iceland.
two countries I want to go SOOOO BADLY.
Except Anthony Bourdain went to Iceland in January and suffered from a blizzard lol.
But, from his book and the show, he makes being a chef sound so difficult, yet glamorous.
I could never become one because of so many reasons, despite my love for cooking and food.
But, he makes me fantasize about being one.
He lived and is living a crazy life!
But, yea.. that's all.
Wishing to be more worldly, outside the books,
Hayon

Movie a day: Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle
Obviously, i'm not watching a movie a day lol. In my defense, Netflix was being a biatch, and I got lazy and busy.
But, I haven't watched Charlie's Angels in a long time and figured WHY NOT?
It was soooo fun to watch Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, and Lucy Liu kick some ASS!
My fantasy wish is to be able to fight the dark powers and kick some serious ass.
But, with my lack of physical abilities and laziness, that is not happening anytime soon.haha.. :(
Watching the movie again after so long, I realized that Cameron Diaz is really slutty in this movie HAHA.
I mean I guess if I had her body, I'd jump on the slutty wagon, too! WHY NOT? If you got it, FLAUNT IT!
And all of their characters are just so lovable! And Drew Barrymore got married as I was watching her movie lol. That has to count for something?
And Bernie Mac is in the movie, which made me kinda sad because he's hilarious and the thought of his passing was depressing.
lol And Justin Theroux is in this movie.. DID YOU KNOW THAT?
I don't know why, but I just can't take him seriously. Possibly from Wanderlust or just the fact that he's Mr. Jennifer Aniston.
I don't dislike him. I just find him unappealing? He looks a little vicious.
Luke Wilson is also in the movie, and I always like him. Probably because of Legally Blonde. He just seems like a good guy lol.
YES, I AM JUDGING. whatever.
And lastly, Matt LeBlanc.
It doesn't matter what role he plays. In my eyes, he will always be Joey. And it seems like, especially in this movie, he does play Joey. lol. I like him. he seems nice too.
Well, not much else to say...
I do enjoy the movie!
Lighthearted fun!
And I always love movies where the main character is a ass-kicking girl because I want to be her.. lol
Kicking ass in dreams,

Movie a day: The Virgin Suicides
Since I found some (a lot of) free time in my hand, I decided to watch movies that I've been either not in the mood to watch or didn't have time to watch.
I usually love movies that are lighthearted, definite, and rather stupid.
I'm not a movie connoisseur. My favorite actor is Will Ferrell. lol I love him.
But, I have my reasons for sometimes refusing the "good" movies.
Stupid movies don't make me feel or think. Usually helps with escaping reality.
Silly movies don't break my heart or have lingering effects that change my views and values.
But, sometimes I want the heartbreak, the empathy, the triumph.
I tend to regret and rejoice after.
The Virgin Suicides was the latter kind of movie.
yea yea yea, I haven't watched it until tonight.
The title scared me.
Suicides = death.
I don't like death.
But, the motivation came from Elle Fanning's instagram. lol
yes, I follow Elle Fanning on instagram.
I think she's just adorable and interesting!
Anyways, she apparently loves the movie, so I became curious.
And, I avoid romantic or popular older (pre 21st century) movies usually (I dislike them because they are too unreal, surreal, and put weird ideas in my head that make me hate reality), so I don't watch a lot of Sofia Coppola films.
I honestly couldn't tell you any of her movies off top of my head, other than this movie.
I know what she looks like if that makes anyone feel better. lol
So, I figured WHY NOT when I saw it on Amazon Prime.
Well, fuck.
It was fantastic and a bummer.
I passionately dislike non-ending endings.
I like all my loose ends tied.
Again, I don't want things to linger, and loose ends linger.
But, it was addicting. Even though I was scared to death (hah!) about seeing dead bodies right before going to sleep (or any point in the day, really), I couldn't stop watching.
I loved the delicate and almost fleeting quality throughout the whole movie.
Everything was SO dark, yet everything was filled with light and warmth.
It was the juxtaposition and mixture of restraint and suffocation with giddiness and love that really made my heart flutter with empathy and desperation.
Everything about it was so beautiful and terrible.
I love and hate the movie.
On a lighter note, I hate Josh Hartnett's hair. ew.
And I saw a lot of Elle Fanning in Kirsten Dunst's looks in the movie. Maybe she really is obsessed with the movie lol.
And I think it would be fantastic to have natural blonde hair and blue eyes. They have that ethereal and angelic quality that I envy.
It's so hard being Asian. #firstworldproblems
On that note, kind of, I think the most attractive quality in woman is the combination of adorable innocence and undeniable seductiveness. And I believe that Marilyn Monroe had that. And so does Lux, even though I think in her case it's more mystery than innocence that attract the world. But ultimately it's the process of losing her innocence that is heartbreaking to me.
Anyways, my goal is to watch a movie a day. I think it's not TOO difficult to achieve since all my TV shows have ended. :(
